But in the course of talking with our customer, we saw a need for some space between the house and the pool which could serve as an intermediary transition, affording sun and rain protection as well as a walkable, insulated and visually appealing roof and ceiling. Fortunately, we had just the product.

Our composite insulated roof systems are build to withstand windloads commensurate with the home itself. In fact, our energy star rated roof systems can span over 16.5' in a 120 mph wind zone. In this case, we provided our customer with a 12' by 36' solid area centered on the rear egress doors of the home. The additional area was screened to provide a versatile, and cost effective area to either side of the insulated cover.

The bronze mansard style screen roof affords maximum volume for the square footage. And it frames the pool area well, drawing attention visually to the entire pool and deck. This enclosure is screened with our new Bettervue brand screening from Phifer. It provides the 20/20 mesh size which is necessary to keep out the sand gnats found south of the fall line near Tallahassee. But unlike the previous small mesh screening, it provides 10% or so more light and air transmittance. Oh and it has a greater wind load rating. And it includes a mold and mildew repellant additive called Microban. We know, it seems too good to be true.

Southwood Screened Porch Project

All Custom Aluminum recently completed another fine patio enclosure in Southwood on Endicott Drive for Whitaker Construction and Design. We utilized aluminum framework and notched each piece to conform to the existing posts for a streamlined look. This installation included two doors, but kept the rear exposure open and symetrical. In a screened patio, unlike in a house, doors actually add more material into your field of view. So placing them to the sides and closer to the rear of the home, if possible, can allow the visual focus of the room to remain as open and symetrical as possible.

New Screened Addition on Hillcrest Street in Tallahassee

All Custom aluminum has just finished a solid roof screened room which incorporated an overlayment of osb and the application of shingles to produce a seamless look, while still taking advantage of all the benefits of building with aluminum. We wanted to enclose the space while maintaining an aesthetic appeal consistent with the home, and are pleased to have done both at a reasonable price, in only a few days. The secret is in our composite aluminum roof system, which incorporates all the elements of a house's ceiling, attic and roof into one, energy efficient, load bearing composite.

The shingles are set in the traditional nail down fashion, and serve to suppliment the finished impervious composite panels with even more redundant layers of waterfast protection. As importantly, shingling the roof provides that final touch that pulls together all the elements of construction into one synergistic whole. We use drip edge and provide 6" gutters on all our shingled additions, to provide a completely traditional look. No one has to know you used environmentally friendly, Energy Star rated green building materials, unless you want them to.

Built in a neighborhood known for its historic homes and quaint bugelows, this addition needed to conform to the existing architecture and blend in rather than stand out. All Custom Aluminum recently completed this beautiful insulated glass porch enclosure off Bull Headly in North Tallahassee. We configured a series of structural alumiunum supports, affording the customer a series of large dimension insulated glass windows which lent an additional layer of openess to the feel of the room. The homeowners opted for a tempered glass fixed window set below the chair rail, affording them more visibility and light penetration. And two Prime doors with dead bolts and keylocks keeps eveything as secure as any rear entry door.

Rustic Screen Room

Interestingly, the home was moved to the property and featured on the show Mega Movers. How Strong are Aluminum Screen Rooms?

Aluminumn Screen Enclosures are required by law to be constructed to the same wind loads as the host structure. In Florida, those wind loads were adjusted in the 2010 Building Code, which was adopted recently and began effect on March 15 2012. What Makes an Aluminum Screened Patio Better?

If you have ever taken notice of a screen room or patio which is constructed from wood components, you have probably seen the following: sagging, loose screen being blown by the wind between vertical posts spaced between 16" and 4' on center. Maybe you were lulled by the rythmic flappedy flap of the screens as they strained against their staples? Vinyl Pane Patio Enclosure in Lakeshore Area of Tallahassee

The core is covered with a contiuous sheet of embossed and finished aluminum top and bottom to create a load bearing, walkable composite capable of withstanding even hurricane force wind loads.

Aside from the roof system, be concerned about fabrication. All Custom Aluminum begins this process with our laser assisted layout, to assure accuracy and precision in our measurements. We then design and fabricate your job utilizing internal screw "bosses". These bosses, present in all aluminum cross member patio extrusions, are put there by the manufacturer to enable most of the connections to be hidden from view, making a cleaner, more produced job. This method of fabrication also has the benefit of producing stronger connections capable of spanning longer distances.
